Malheur Coyote

I have tried on many of my visits to these islands to capture this gorgeous bird. Success was achieved at the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park in Kona.Turns out this bird is not really a Cardinal; it is a Tanager.Regardless – a very pretty bird.

A huge wave at Cape Disappointment looks as if it is spreading wings and about to leap into the air like a bird.The top of the lighthouse can just be seen through a gap in the spray.

A group of fearless youngsters watch as their friend does a backflip off of the old pier on Coconut Island in Hilo Bay. To make this image, I put the camera into multiple shot mode and held the shutter from when the boy jumped until he was in the water. The collection was then stacked in Photoshop as layers. I then painted a mask on each layer to reveal only the boy as he spun down into the water. Visualize your shot, think how you will execute it, then release the shutter.
