Malheur National Wildlife Refuge
Malheur was set aside as a National Wildlife Refuge in 1908 by President Theodor Roosevelt. It covers over 187,000 acres of high desert which provides a home for some 340 species of birds and other wildlife.

…Cape Alva, Sandpoint, and Lake Ozette are at the Northwest corner of the Olympic Peninsula. Not quite to Cape Flattery. It is a wonderful place to visit.
The lake is right at the Olympic National Park entrance and you can reach Sandpoint by hiking 3 miles west along a mostly boardwalk trail through lovely coastal forest.
…I usually drive here from Olympia, over SR 8 and US 12 which puts us into Aberdeen, at the mouth of the Chehalis River. Continuing west on SR 109 brings us to the Pacific Ocean and the small community of Ocean Shores. This is the north side of Grays Harbor.
